Dr Thulani Makhalanyane trained at the University of the North-West and received his MSc (Cum Laude) and PhD from the University of the Western Cape. He was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Genetics at the University of Pretoria and Deputy Director of the Centre for Microbial Ecology and Genomics in 2015. Just 2 years out of his postdoc, Thulani has already published 26 papers and has an h-index of 8. He was awarded the National Science and Technology Forum TW Kambule Award for Emerging Researchers in 2015 and the International Society for Microbial Ecology Young Ambassador’s Award in 2016.
