Events management

By virtue of the nature of its operations and the facilities available, the University often hosts both internal and external events.

The promulgated Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act (SASREA) Act No. 2 of 2010 has been successfully implemented with regard to operational meetings, the drafting of comprehensive operational plans, applications for risk categorisations and liaison with all external stakeholders and emergency services personnel before each event.

An Events Committee was established to oversee the governance process for events at the University of Pretoria. This Committee:

• ensures that facilities are optimally used for the benefit and in the best interest of the University;
• provides guidelines for the efficient and orderly running of events at the University;
• ensures that the University complies with the applicable legislative requirements at all times; and
• sets guidelines to be followed when an event is hosted or presented.
