Talent Domain Programme

WAG Classes: TuksGymnastics is one of a very few gymnastics clubs in South Africa who offers the International Gymnastics Federations’ Development Programme (Classes Programme), developing talented and passionate gymnasts who would like to make High-Performance gymnastics their sport of choice moving forward.

This programme is offered by the International Gymnastics Federation in the Men’s and Women’s and Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Currently, we only offer this programme in our Women’s Artistic Programme at Tuks and we consider it an early specialization programme.

The aim of this programme is to develop young gymnasts toward high-level gymnastics, promoting and encouraging the physical and emotional wellbeing of the individual.  Our coaches working in this environment is dedicated to this group of athletes and is developed and trained to give our gymnasts the best possible opportunity to realize their high-performance dream.

The programme is twofold in that the develops the basic gymnastics skills imperative and non-negotiable in the development of a high-performance gymnast and this is evaluated through a set routine on all 4 apparatus that becomes progressively more difficult as the gymnast progresses from one class to the next.

The programme simultaneously encourages the development of high-level skills in a safe environment through a skill testing programme. The skill testing programme is exceptionally important in the gymnastic skill hungry years (9 to 11/12 years) where they are most susceptible to learning.  This is evaluated in Club/District and Province squad environments.

The Talent programme consists out of Class 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and FIG Junior Olympic where after they can move onto the FIG Senior Olympic section in the High-Performance Domain.

Training times range from 15 to 30 hours per week depending level.  This programme differs from our other programmes as it is very age specific and every Class has minimum and maximum age associated with it.  We further have very specific entry and exit requirements a gymnast needs to adhere to.  Whenever a gymnast does not comply with the rules associated with the programme they will be moved to a specific mainstream Level.

Level 8 and 9, as well as WAG Olympic Entry, also fall into the Talent Programme.  These are gymnasts that comes through the Levels programmes or Classes system and is in the process of progressing between the programmes.  Level 8 and 9 gymnast train a minimum of 15 hours a week.  The programme falls in the “Train to Compete” phases of the Long-Term Participants Development (LTPD) Programme, as most of the gymnasts participating in this programme range from 12 years and older.
