Nombolo Mdhluli Conference Centre at the Skukuza Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River, Skukuza rest camp is the administrative headquarters and largest rest camp of the Kruger National Park. Well foliaged, with lofty trees along the river’s edge, visitors can expect a diverse amount of animals and plants at this popular camp, as well as a range of activities and facilities.

First established as part of the original Sabie Game Reserve in 1898, Skukuza camp is richly historical.
Originally known as Sabie Bridge Rest Camp, Skukuza was adapted from the Tsonga word Sikhukhuza. This was the Zulu nickname given to the first warden of the park James Stevenson-Hamilton, who cleared the area of large groups of poachers and outlaws, and was thus nicknamed Sikhukhuza or ‘a new broom’ by the local people. The eponymous museum houses relevant artifacts from the area, including the knife used by legendary ranger Harry Wolhuter in his famed struggle to kill an attacking lion and save his own life.

General:

In the Kruger National Park the climate in August is mild and dry. The average daily minimum temperature is 10 deg centigrade and the maximum temperature is 27 deg centigrade.

Sunrise is at approximately 06:30 and sunset at 17:15.

As the Lowveld is an endemic malaria area, visitors must ensure that they take a malaria preventative as prescribed.

We recommend that visitors to the Park bring mosquito repellant, suntan lotion, binoculars and a flashlight.
