Edwin Mitas was born in Claremont, Cape Town on 15 November 1984. Bred in the little Karoo town of Oudtshoorn, Edwin showed a love for sport and music at a very young age. He excelled equally in both, achieving provincial colours in rugby and conducting choirs from the age of 12. It was eventually his passion for music that saw him relocate to Pretoria in 2004 to pursue his musical career in the SA Air Force. He currently serves as principal clarinettist (ATCL) in the SA Air Force band and resident conductor of the SA Air Force choir. He recently obtained his Licentiate in music directing (LRSM) under the mentorship of Gerben Grooten. Edwin also leads the New Apostolic Gauteng Choir and Orchestra, which under his direction has released two successful albums: "Ewe Jesu" in 2014 & "Joy in Christ" in 2015. He participated in master classes led by Prof Echardt Klem (Germany) 2013, Prof Alfred Brady (Salt Lake City, USA) and Dr. Eugene Rodgers (Mens Glee Club, Michigan, USA) 2016 . He was also invited to compete in the Len Van Zyl conducting competition under Victor Yampolski (2015). In February 2017, Edwin was appointed as resident conductor of UP Onderstepoort Community Choir. |
