Information for clients

ALL-HOURS CONTACT NUMBER: 0861 00 VETS (8387)

The Outpatients Clinic of the OVAH offers not only daily consulting hours (see Outpatients clinic page) but also a 24-hour emergency service. If you have an after-hours emergency, please try and telephone ahead so that personnel and students are ready to receive you. Your animal will be hospitalised overnight, and you will then be required to pay the agreed deposit before 12 noon the following day.

Referral from a private veterinary practice

If your private veterinarian refers you to us, he/she will make an appointment for you or alternatively write you a referral letter and ask you to make an appointment. On the day of your appointment, please present your referral letter plus identity document to the front-desk staff. You will be asked to sign an indemnity form and pay a deposit.  Admissions to the hospital are generally for a minimum of 2-3 days. Prescription diets and/or medication may be brought along as required. The provisional cost estimate and deposit required will be discussed with you when the appointment is made.

Fees

All fees charged by the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital fall within the recommendations of the South African Veterinary Association, and take into account that final year veterinary and para-veterinary students are involved in patient care and services rendered.

Cost estimates and deposits

Provisional costs estimates are always supplied before an animal is hospitalised. A 50% deposit is payable at the time of admission. The deposit is then deducted from the final amount payable.

Payment

The OVAH is not a registered credit provider and therefore does not offer an account facility. Full payment is required at the time of discharge of your animal. Payment options include cash, debit card, credit card, direct bank deposit or electronic transfer.

Should you have any queries in this regard, please consult hospital administration staff before your animal receives treatment.
