Onderstepoort Animal Blood Bank (OABB)

The Onderstepoort Animal Blood Bank is run from within the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital. The service uses in-house and client-owned donor dogs that meet stringent health criteria to provide blood products. All canine donors are initially blood typed and then regularly screened (clinical examination and blood tests). 

Donated blood is used primarily in the treatment of patients at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, but subject to availability the blood bank will supply canine blood products to private veterinarians.

Special arrangements may be made for the collection and transfusion of blood in cats, horses and other species when necessary.
