Launch: Op die keper beskou

Op die keper beskou, Heinrich Grebe’s book on the origin of Afrikaans, was launched on 14 November. In this publication Grebe refutes many popular myths about the origin of Afrikaans. He presents a brief overview of the various origin theories. These views are measured critically against prudent empirical research and the process renders various insights.

Hein Grebe was on the staff of the Department of Afrikaans until his death in April last year. At the time of his passing he had finished the manuscript but not the editing, a task subsequently completed by his colleague, Hein Willemse.

Op die keper beskou is the fourth publication in “Talatala”, a series of scientific book publications on Afrikaans compiled and edited by the Department of Afrikaans at UP. The book has been published by Van Schaik publishers and is available at bookstores (including Bookwize on Hatfield Campus). It may also be ordered from www.vanschaiknet.com.
