History, Traditions and Values

History

Taaibos was founded in 1961. It was the second residence that was built on the Hillcrest Residence Campus and the second oldest residence at Tuks.Today it stands proud together with the six other residences on the quiet green terrain of the Hillcrest Residence Campus. Taaibos stands out because of its tradition and the fact that it is a well balanced residence at Tuks.

Name

When Taaibos was being built in 1960 there was a competition to decide on a name for the new residence. The two most popular proposals were Soetdoring and Taaibos. Taaibos was chosen and it was decided that all residences on campus would be named after plants of the South African veld. Today all male resedences have tree names while the female resedences have flower names, except for Kollegetehuis.

Clothes

Taaibos residents stand out on campus in their red jackets. Taaibos Tuesday is the day on which the gentlemen of Taaibos all proudly wear their residence shirts and caps on campus.
